fitness + personal training

The JCC offers specialty fitness classes geared towards tweens. Our classes support a healthy lifestyle and boost self esteem. Personal training in small groups or one–on–one is also offered for tweens. Those interested in private training can purchase a half-hour or one-hour tween personal training package. Want to host your own private spin class? Email Caroline Weinstein at for details.

Classes include:

  • Teen/Tween cycle:  Get in shape with this high calorie-burning indoor cycling workout. Learn the proper hand positions and ride to the beat. Special themed rides will be announced. No cell phones permitted in class.

  • Boxercise for Tweens:  A rigorous, fun, aerobic workout for all levels. Use punching bags, hurdles, and jump ropes, to release tension, get fit, and have fun.

studio arts + culinary

Classes include:

  • Wheel Fun:  Pottery (10-13 years): If you haven't tried throwing a pot on the wheel yet, grab a friend and learn how to use the pottery wheel with the amazing Ms. Lee. You will make simple forms as well as lots of other projects through handbuilding. Using the ceramics studio puts you in a professional setting that you don't get to experience at school. All levels welcome. Supplies included.

  • Beginning Digital Photography Academy (11-14 years):  Learn to use your 35mm digital SLR camera to cultivate a critical eye and capture the images you want. Use the JCC digital lab to download, retouch, and print your photos. View the work of well-known photographers during slideshow lectures and trips to museums and galleries. Use studio lights to create a staged picture with your classmates. Leave the class with a portfolio of work to show friends and family. A camera with manual settings is necessary.

  • Fashion Studio Series (8-14 years):  Already on your way to fashion blogging and pinning your favorite trends and looks to Pinterest? Want to start? Sign up for a couple or all of the following workshops to put your collection together. We'll create a class blog that features everyone's creations. 10% discount on registration for all sessions.

  • Tween After Dark: Hands-On Cooking Party:  You're invited to the biggest cooking party in town. Create different party menus while listening to music and hanging out with friends. Snacks and dishes include: make-your-own fruit kabobs; chocolate-covered strawberries; bagel chips with assorted dips; red pepper hummus in cucumber cups; soft Asian summer rolls in sweet and savory dipping sauce; cheddar cheese balls; sparkling pomegranate punch; soft and crunchy tacos; guacamole with homemade tortilla chips; cream cheese wontons; deviled eggs; "fried" zucchini sticks; and garlic parmesan potato wedges.
